Requirements:
18 years of age (16 or 17 year-olds can attain probationary certification which will become permanent on their 18th birthday. Read a 60 page manual & complete quizzes before attending course. Attend both days for certification.
Completing an OCC course through licensed instructors gives you
1. A nationally valid outdoor leadership certification.
2. A one-year membership to the OCC.
Course Content
The course is divided between in- class learning (65%) and field exercises (35%). The learning format will be primarily guided & group discussions. Topics include: leadership, integrating ‘activity’ ‘participant’ and ‘venue’ to promote event quality and safety, constructing activity plans, identifying hazards and mitigation strategies, communication and team building between participants, co-leaders and other stakeholders, group management, enhancing situational awareness, emergency response, and post trip debriefing and facilitation.
