School Watch is a free program where teachers learn how to lead citizen science projects with their students on school grounds. We deliver free teacher PD on curriculum-linked environmental projects such as tree inventories and pollinator surveys. This project allows students to contribute meaningful data while learning about ecosystem health, positive actions and environmental science in the community.
At teacher* workshops, we provide:
- Hands-on resources for animating school ground greening projects
- Exposure to and training on different kinds of citizen science projects
- Follow-up staff support to plan and co-lead an outdoor education lesson with EcoSpark
- Opportunities to earn points towards your EcoSchools certification! (YRDSB participants receive a York Region District School Board certificate of Ontario EcoSchools points earned, and are eligible for additional points by implementing citizen science activities.)
*While designed for teachers, workshops are suitable for anyone interested in connecting kids with outdoor education, space permitting.
EcoSpark is an environmental charity whose mission is to empower communities to take an active role in protecting and sustaining their local environment.
Registration is required. Spaces are limited. Note: Friday May 4, 2018 is a YRDSB & YCDSB PA Day - Secondary.
